Thijs Aaten has more than 25 years’ experience in asset management, predominantly in the Netherlands and Asia. In his role as CEO of APG Asset Management Asia, he oversees strategy and operations across Hong Kong, Shanghai and Beijing for one of the world’s largest pension investors.

Previously, Aaten held the role of CFRO and was responsible for the full remit of risk management, compliance and finance. Prior to his role as CFRO, he established the APG Treasury Center, a licensed investment firm which acted as the central dealing desk and counter party for APG’s clients and funds. During and in the years after the credit crisis of 2008, he managed a €200 billion pension fund portfolio as Managing Director Allocation & Overlay Management and positioned it successfully for recovery in 2009.

Aaten’s external board engagements include ISDA, the International Swaps and Derivatives Association, and he is a member of the Investment Committee of Bpf Schilders.
