Carmen Cano

Head of the EU Office to Hong Kong and Macao

Ambassador Carmen Cano began her term as the Head of the European Union Office to Hong Kong and Macao on 1 September 2016. She joined the European External Action Service as Deputy Head of the Delegation of the EU to China and Mongolia in Beijing in 2011, where she worked until her transfer to Hong Kong.

Seasoned career diplomat, Carmen Cano joined the Spanish Foreign Service in 1992. She was posted to Beijing, Kazakhstan, Romania, Ghana and Ethiopia. During her time in the Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Madrid, Carmen Cano worked in the Department of non-proliferation and disarmament. She also served as Deputy Director General in charge of Continental Asia in 2010 to 2011.

Mrs Cano holds a dual Bachelor in French and English Philology from the University of Zaragoza, Spain, and is fluent in Spanish, English and French.
